I have decided that I am officially on the prowl for a new blog service. I am tired of TypePad's downright awful page speed and their apparent inability to provide stats with any degree of consistency. I get, like, six visitors a week and I'm throwing in the towel. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for someone with substantive traffic having to rely on this level of craptacular service. Service that I pay for.
Alright, blogosphere, wow me with the wisdom of the beehive.
[shakes magic 8 ball]
To what service should I move my blog, and why?
P.S. Don't you think that, of any service, TypePad should have natively provided the word "blogosphere" in its spell check dictionary?
Have you been reading the saga of Typepad's data-center woes?

They're making progress on the problem and are doing a good job of communicating what's going on and accepting responsibility.
On the other hand, http://wordpress.com is going to be your next best bet, if you can get an invitation. But it's just starting, and someday will likely face exactly these same growing pains.

Wordpress.com does not allow you to alter templates AT ALL, which means you can't imbed code to track stats. Many, many people have been hassling them about this and I'm sure they'll come up with a solution soon, but it's still very much in beta. I can give you an invite if you want, I really like the interface but I haven't tried typepad so I'm not sure how they compare.
Are you sure you want a hosted solution? The wordpress software (as opposed to the hosted thing) is supposed to be great. You'd just need some help setting it up and then you'd be golden.

Negimaki.com
free hosting for Word Press blogs. FTP uploading, complete control over everything, I have no problems with it. Their sign-up service is a bit strange- you have an IM interview and then a two week wait, but after that their service is fabulous. I had some trouble and e-mailed the guy about 15 or 20 times, and he was very helpful each time...

Sorry you've been frustrated with TypePad, but I think that we've had much improved performance since the updates we've made, and I hope you'll give us a chance to make things right.
In addition, you'll want to stick around for all the features that you can only get integrated as part of the TypePad experience: podcasting and video podcasting, photo albums, text ads and tip jars to earn money on your blog publishing XML feeds or book lists or music lists on your sidebar, and moblogging to your blog or photo albums. If you'd rather spend your time blogging than hacking around with technology to make all these things work, TypePad's still going to be a better experience in the long term. Thanks for being patient with us.

Typepad is good I still like it. The ftp uploading is nice and I love uploading all my photos and stuff. I have a ton of photos and makes it easier for photo freaks lol
