I was up in the Bay Area this weekend and heard some radio spots about Ricola's Mystery Cougher campaign. If you're not familiar with this, Ricola (the Swiss cough drop company) is sending out people to random public places to pretend like they are having a coughing fit. If a passing good Samaritan offers the cougher a Ricola, that person could win a bundle of cash (up to one million). Ricola is offering up all sorts of email and radio clues for where and when to spot the next cougher.
I love this type of marketing. It's clever and fun.
To make it even more fun, I recommend the following: Get 10 or 15 of your friends to follow the email clues. When you have a pretty good idea of where the mystery cougher will be on a given day, arrange to meet your buddies at that location. Spread out and engage in simultaneous hacking fits. The more violent, the better. Collect points for the number of Ricola's random people give you. I think this would be a great idea for a Flash Mob.
