I like GoDaddy.com and use them for my domain names and hosting. This is despite my vehement disagreement with GoDaddy President and fellow Baltimorean Bob Parsons' politics. Just because people have no idea what they're talking about politically doesn't necessarily make them bad people, or a bad entrepreneurs.
That being said, what the hell was up with the SuperBowl Ad?
Here is my main problem: I know what GoDaddy does. I work in the Internet industry and I'm even one of their customers. But I have no idea what the commercial was selling or saying. None. And if there was a joke, I totally missed it. There was a hot woman with big boobs, admittedly, but while that is often enough to sell beer (although surprisingly, Budweiser's fantastic commercials stayed completely away from that style this year), it didn't really work for domain resellers this year. Please bear in mind that I'm not advocating the response of the morons who think that this woman's boobs on TV will mean the end of civilization as we know it. Every one I watched the SuperBowl with was confused, not offended. I read some very interesting comments on Mr. Parsons' post about the ad, and compliment him on responding to every one of his detractors. His explanation of the ad was as follows:
[It was] really just a parody of the process the network put us through in getting our Super Bowl ad approved
Sorry, Bob. I still don't get it. And most of the SuperBowl Fan Base now thinks you are a porn site.
Next time you want to throw away millions of dollars, I'm available for consulting.
