All Good Things

Once again we had a pretty lively time of it at Pub Quiz last week. This time it was one of the closest contests that we've ever had. But when it was all said and done Team #2 Check Out the Big Brain on Brad squeaked out a narrow victory over several challengers and actually managed to win the big jackpot after weeks of trying unsuccessfully. Kudos to them!

Charity Pub Quiz Tonight

Tonight there will be a special charity installment of Pub Quiz at the Old Kings Road. $5 per person to play and winners will get free drinks and prizes.

Quizmaster Tim will be playing instead of quizmastering. Come try your luck against him and put him in his place. (Talking about yourself in the third person is kind of fun.)

Last week's quiz progressed according to what is becoming a fairly time-worn script. Although a number of teams managed to be competitive for a round or two, only a few teams were able to be competitive for all four rounds. And of those few teams only Team #1 Back to Jafo was able to pull off the overall score win and even though they failed to win the jackpot for the third week in a row I have to say that it beats losing by .5 points three weeks in a row. Which that team has done before.

We had a quick and relatively painless beginning to fiesta season last week (well, except for round 4) with a pretty good game of Pub Quiz. It wasn't quite as good at the Paradise Cafe grilled asparagus that I had after Pub Quiz, but it was close.

Super busy this week, so I will probably be brief. As much as I liked many of the questions that I wrote for last week, I couldn't help feel a sense of impending doom as I read them and realized that there might be more than one correct answer out there for some of them. That is the worst feeling a Quizmaster can have and it's also what makes the questions so hard to write. I will try to do better next week.

Random Observations

I almost forgot what it was like to do Pub Quiz in front of a full audience. Much more fun. Observations from last night:

1. As much as a few people bellyache about there not being enough sports questions, almost nobody likes or cares about sports questions.

2. I'm pleased to report that many fewer quiz people attentively listen to KJEE than I thought.

3. Nobody at Pub Quiz follows or cares much about big business. A sign of the economy?

4. There are far fewer current or ex-foodservers in the crowd than I imagined.

5. I'm contemplating putting a 140 character limit on the team names. It damn hard to write long names down and even harder to read them. Brevity is the soul of wit.

6. Is it a coincidence that we had great attendance on a night with no baseball games? I think not (see #1), but still.

7. I'm asking more wine questions. Get used to it.

8. I forgot what 8 was for.

9. Did I really commit to posting results for all 24 teams?

10. Fire Quiz Tee-Shirts are still in the works and will hopefully be ready before the next major fire.
